A BIT ABOUT THE DIVING
Barra Lodge Dive Centre is located on Mozambique’s rugged Manta Coast. The Lodge is nestled among palm trees along a sparkling white sand beach only a few steps away from the temperate Indian Ocean. Renowned for its friendly indigenous people and breathtaking, unspoilt scenery, the region is fast becoming world famous for spectacular diving. We have over 1000 species of fish as well as manta rays, whale sharks, dolphins, turtles, migrating humpback whales, and occasionally the mythical dugong. Some people find the real pleasure in diving with us is not only the abundant marine life but also the untouched and pristine dive sites. It is on very rare occasions that you will have to share a reef with other groups of divers. Come experience the thrill of Mozambique diving, here with us, at Barra Lodge Dive Centre.

INDIVIDUAL COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
PADI Open Water Diver
This entry-level course is designed so that on completion, you will be able to dive competently and safely with a buddy to a maximum depth of 18 metres. You will also be able to plan your dives taking into consideration experience level, sea conditions, and decompression limits. The course consists of 5 knowledge development sections, 5 confined water or pool dives, and 4 open water dives. You will learn to apply all you have learned in the classroom and pool to dive safely in the sea. This course must be completed before your 2 ½ month internship can start. It can either be completed with us at Barra Lodge or at any other Dive Centre.
PADI Advanced Diver
With the Advanced Diver certification, you will be able to dive sites that require a little bit more training than Open Water certification. To earn this qualification you need to complete 5 Adventure Dives. It is mandatory to complete the Deep and Underwater Navigation Adventures, but the other 3 can be of your choice. Therefore, the course consists of 5 Knowledge reviews and 5 Open water dives.
Choices of Adventure dives include:
| • |
Deep Underwater Photography |
| • |
Night AWARE Fish Identification |
| • |
Drift Underwater Navigation |
| • |

PADI Speciality Courses
You may find that some of your Adventure Dives really piqued your interest. The corresponding Speciality courses teach you all the special procedures and relevant information you need to take your interest to the next level. These programs can help you gain experience while logging dives in order to get to the prerequisite 40 dives needed to begin the Divemaster program. Search and Recovery and Deep Specialties, in particular, satisfy requirements necessary for the Divemaster program. Maybe you want to learn how to take underwater photographs, improve your buoyancy, dive to 40 metres, etc. You can! Just ask for more details about specific specialty courses. If you decide to book into the Divemaster program at Barra Dive Resorts, we offer a special 40% discount on specialties for all our Divemaster Interns.
Emergency First Response
This course is designed for divers and non-divers alike who would like to be confident and competent in providing assistance in the event of an emergency. The course teaches you how to provide Rescue Breaths, CPR, First Aid (Secondary Care), Oxygen, and Automated External Defibrillation (AED). As an optional extra, you can also learn Care for Children. |
 |
PADI Rescue Diver
Rescue training is one of the most challenging and, therefore, rewarding courses to take. It will prepare you to help prevent or manage dive emergencies and improve your skill and confidence as a diver, knowing that in the event of an emergency you have an extensive ‘tool box’ of rescue techniques and knowledge to draw from. Techniques covered in the course include distressed divers above and below the surface, missing and unconscious diver procedures, and dive emergency first aid / O2 use. This course has been shown statistically to be the course divers like the most for the ‘serious fun’ it provides.
