ZAMBIA SHOAL
Zambia is about 10km long and ranges in depth from 6m to 40m. The outer edge produces long, generally clean drift dives, with less coral growth, but a better chance of seeing the "big stuff". The North Eastern point has a stunning dive called "3 Sisters" (26 - 40m in depth) with dramatic pinnacles, lots of Green Tree Coral, shoals of Schooling Coachman, giant Kingfish, big rays, shark and one rare Indian Butterfly.
The inner edge tends to have lower visibility, but good structure and amazing fish densities. Good dives here include Trojan and Kitwe
It must be stated that Zambia, whilst being stunning, is far from the shore, and adverse sea conditions may affect the trip.
POMENE POINT
The sites are varied, but generally have very good structure, lower visibility at times and good fish densities. The best by far is Playstation, which is a large pinnacle (9 - 22m in depth) with a series of deep caves and swim-throughs at the base. It can be prone to current, but its structure always allows lee to enjoy this amazing place. There are large shoals of Snapper, Kingfish, a Manta cleaning station and many Trumpetfish and Angels. One of my best dives!
Other good dive sites include Hotel Pinnacles (22 - 30m depth) with many large Yellow Black corals and their accompanying Longnose Hawkfish. Bay Ledge (24 - 32m in depth) and Steps (8 - 26m in depth).
THE ESTUARY
Pomene is blessed with an almost pristine estuary, which provides very interesting dives at high tide. The usual dive is a walk in from the dive centre, starting off on an artificial reef, with an amazing amount of life, a swim over the sand channel, and a slow drift along a sea grass bed. Once the tide changes it slowly brings you back to the dive centre. The maximum depth is only 6m, and the high tide usually brings good visibility. Highlights on this dive are three species of Seahorse, Pipefish, Razorfish, small Frogfish and a variety of molluscs and crustaceans, and seldom-seen juvenile fish. Not 'Big 5' but very good for a macro photographer.Note:This dive is definitely tide dependant, but if high tide is not during the day, the site is excellent for a casual night dive.
GENERAL
We have two Mariner compressors (unfortunately no nitrox yet), many 10 litre and 12 litre steel cylinders, a large range of new 5mm wetsuits and other scuba gear. Our two dive boats, an 8m and a 5.5 m rubber duck (ribs) are both fitted with Suzuki 4-stroke motors.
Diving at Pomene is exciting, and with us being the only scuba operator, there is very little pressure on the reefs. While sharks, Whalesharks and Manta's are regularly seen on any of the outer dives, we are obviously not able to guarantee them.
There are also a host of new species not seen in South Africa
We look forward to diving with you.
