Barra Dive - Sherwood Forest

Sherwood Forest

Distance: 6 km

Min Qualification: Advanced

Max Depth: 30 m

Average Depth: 27 m

Dive Time: 20 min (as long as you don’t go and lie on the bottom for too long!), total dive time is 30 min+ due to our nice slow ascent

This reef is a massive 80m-sized rock that has been placed in the middle of nowhere. It got its name from the forest of green tree coral growing at the top of the reef, providing a home to masses and masses blue striped and humpback snappers. It’s a spectacular sight, and under the eaves of the reef, big morays can be found, fire gobies in pair in the sand and quite often a resting turtle. 20 m north of the reef is a large rock that is also covered in green tree coral and has a nice swim through commonly guarded by a big potato grouper. As on all deep sites the ascent can be really cool with game fish, devil rays etc.

General info:

Unfortunately because of its size we don’t dive this reef in a strong current. And because of its depth and the need for a rapid descent we like all divers to be experienced in deep diving and negative entry procedures.
